Ask me about a trip
Planning a trip to Japan? Message me. It's free, it's just a conversation, and "I haven't decided anything yet" is a fine place to start.

Just ask
If you’re putting a trip together — in Japan, or one of the cities I’ve written about here — send me a message and I’ll help however I can.
It’s free. There’s no menu, no invoice, nothing to sign up for. I’m doing it because planning a trip is now mostly a problem of too much information: every search returns forty ranked lists, half of them written by someone who has never been. It’s more useful to just ask a person who has walked the street.
You can come with a full itinerary you want checked, or with nothing at all. “I have four days and I don’t know where to start” is a completely normal way to open.
And tell me about where you’re from
Fair warning that this is partly self-interested. Almost everyone around me does the same job I do, so I end up having the same conversation a lot. Talking to someone who came from somewhere else, and lives a completely different sort of life, is honestly the part I look forward to.
So it doesn’t have to be one-directional. Ask me about Japan, tell me about yours.
And if you came with actual questions, you’ll get actual answers — I’m not going to fob you off with chat.
What that looks like
- A message thread. Ask what you want, whenever you think of it. No appointment needed.
- A video call, if you’d rather talk. Sometimes twenty minutes of talking replaces a week of reading.
- Honest answers. Including “the famous one is a bit disappointing, but the thing twenty minutes away isn’t,” and “I don’t actually know that area — I’d be making it up.”
Please go easy on me
Two things I should say up front, because I’d rather you hear them from me:
My English is still a work in progress. I’m learning. If I phrase something oddly, that’s what’s happening — please just ask again.
I’m still learning how to do this well, too. I’m not a professional guide and I’ve never claimed to be. I’m someone who travels a lot and pays attention. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need, and sometimes it isn’t.
What I don’t do
- I don’t book anything for you. No flights, hotels, tickets, restaurants or transport. Arranging travel on someone’s behalf is a licensed activity in Japan and I’m not licensed for it. You book; I tell you what’s worth booking.
- I’m not a licensed interpreter-guide. I don’t use that title and I don’t do what it covers.
- I’m not a travel agency, and this isn’t a package.
